When Should You See an Ear Specialist Immediately?

Ear problems can escalate quickly into permanent hearing deficits or nerve weakness if neglected. If you or your child experience any of the warning signs on the right, book an urgent consultation.

Emergency Call: +91 98711 50032
Sudden Hearing Loss: A rapid drop in hearing over 24–72 hours requires immediate treatment within days for best recovery.
Foul Smelling or Bloody Discharge: Indicates persistent infection or potential middle ear cholesteatoma.
Severe Ear Pain with Swelling: Redness spreading behind the ear lobe toward the mastoid bone.
Violent Dizziness with Vomiting: Severe spinning sensations indicating acute vestibular disturbance.
Facial Muscle Weakness or Drooping: Inability to close one eye accompanied by ear pain (Bell's palsy/facial nerve involvement).
Objects Stuck in Children's Ears: Beads, seeds, or batteries requiring gentle microscopic extraction without canal trauma.

Ear Treatment FAQs

Clear, doctor-verified answers to common questions about ear infections, cleaning, hearing loss, and surgery.

How is an eardrum perforation (hole) treated? Is surgery always required?
Not every eardrum perforation requires surgery. Fresh traumatic perforations (e.g. from an accidental slap or earbud injury) often heal spontaneously within 6 to 12 weeks with strict water precautions and antibiotic ear drops. If the perforation is chronic, recurrent, or causes hearing loss, Dr. Bhardwaj performs a stitchless endoscopic or microscopic tympanoplasty to reconstruct the membrane using your own natural tissue graft.
Is ear wax cleaning safe? Should I use cotton buds at home?
Cotton buds should never be inserted into the ear canal. They push wax deeper against the eardrum, create impactions, and frequently puncture the delicate membrane. At MedFirst ENT Centre, we perform gentle, painless Microscopic Suction Clearance (Microsuction) under Carl Zeiss visualization, removing wax, fungal debris, and foreign bodies without water irrigation or pain.
What is the recovery time after Tympanoplasty or Mastoid surgery?
Most modern ear surgeries are performed as day-care or 24-hour stay procedures. Patients can walk comfortably the same evening and return to desk work within 4 to 7 days. Water precautions (keeping the ear dry with cotton dabbed in petroleum jelly during bathing) are required for 4–6 weeks until the graft is completely healed. Air travel is typically avoided for 4 to 6 weeks.
Can Tinnitus (ear ringing or buzzing) be cured?
Tinnitus management depends on identifying its root cause. If caused by wax blockage, middle ear infection, or otosclerosis, addressing the underlying issue often resolves the ringing completely. For sensorineural tinnitus, Dr. Bhardwaj employs specialized sound therapy, acoustic rehabilitation, digital hearing aid masking, and medical neuro-support to significantly reduce distress and restore tranquility.
What causes Vertigo and why is an ENT consultation crucial?
Over 80% of vertigo and spinning sensations originate in the inner ear vestibular system—primarily Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV), Meniere's disease, or Labyrinthitis. Rather than expensive brain scans and prolonged anti-dizziness sedatives, Dr. Bhardwaj performs targeted particle repositioning maneuvers (such as Epley's maneuver) which often cure BPPV vertigo completely in a single 15-minute clinic visit.
